6. Nofollow Fix

Google Says: Monetized Links need Nofollow

“Any links intended to manipulate PageRank or a site’s ranking in Google search results may be considered part of a link scheme and a violation of Google’s Webmaster Guidelines…
The following are examples of link schemes which can negatively impact a site’s ranking in search results:

Buying or selling links that pass PageRank. This includes exchanging money for links, or posts that contain links; exchanging goods or services for links; or sending someone a “free” product in exchange for them writing about it and including a link

You can prevent PageRank from passing in several ways, such as:

…Adding a rel=”nofollow” attribute to the tag”

Source: Google Webmaster Support

This applies to all links in giveaways, sponsored posts, affiliate links, or any links where money might have changed hands…back as far as you’ve been blogging.

How it’s Enforced:

A Google manual penalty for “unnatural outbound links” may arrive in your inbox and search console:

Fix it! The Blog Fixer will…

  • Automatically find most of the common affiliate program links and typical structure of a sponsored, review, or giveaway post
  • Work with you to make sure we didn’t miss any custom affiliate programs or sponsored content you may have
  • Automatically apply nofollow to ALL affiliate links and all external links in sponsored, review, or giveaway content (we’ve done up to 22,000 on one blog before!)

  • I am absolutely thrilled with The Blog Fixer! I approached Kris with some projects to get my blog up to date for social media and affiliate links. His proposed fixes came back to me quickly, and I was impressed with the speed of applying the fixes, his care to ensure everything is clearly understood and implemented, and of course, the result. It was fast, easy, thorough, and painless!

  • I've been blogging for over a decade and when I started, nofollow links weren't really a thing. The thought of manually going through thousands of links from the past that needed attention was overwhelming, so I just kept putting it off. When I got a nofollow penalty notification from Google, I realized that although I had been using nofollow links recently, there were still many old posts that needed my attention, quick. I was so glad to find Kris from The Blog Fixer. He fixed all those old links and reversed the Google penalty in no time at all. I can't thank him enough.

  • When I sit down to research, I can only focus when my laundry is folded, dishes washed, and the floor is free of Legos. When I found out that nearly all my affiliate links were missing the "nofollow" code, it was like my kids dumped a box of Legos across the hallway. The Blog Fixer made all my affiliate links Google friendly instantly, which cleared away the mental clutter. No more frustration about things that take too much time to do myself but must get done.

  • The Blog Fixer was my “get out of Google jail” pass! There’s no way I could have manually updated all the content on my site. The team came to my rescue, bailed me out, and allowed me to get on with the business of creating great content for my readers. The Live Fix feature also gives me the assurance that my site will be compliant going forward, with no extra effort on my part.

  • When I started blogging, I didn't understand the importance of 'nofollow' links. I had since learned but never went back to correct my old links. I blog in my spare time, so when I received a warning letter from Google, I was about to give it up until a friend told me about Blog Fixer. I was amazed at how fast it fixed every affiliate link! It saved me months of work. It's truly an invaluable service and worth every penny. The Google warning was lifted after about a week and now I can focus on writing content!

FAQs

This is as close to a white glove treatment online as you’ll find! The Blog Fixer team will take care of everything you need, except for some questions you’ll need to answer to give us direction.

We use our product, a custom plugin called The Blog Fixer, to run a service on your blog. Later, you’ll have the opportunity to use the plugin regularly to keep your blog in compliance. Then it’s a product, but for now, just know that you (and your blog monetization security) will be taken care of.

Is anyone? When the customer service people Associates can talk to with questions can’t communicate with the compliance team that could shut you down, and the lawyers who wrote the Guidelines might not be talking to the developers creating the software…it’s anyone’s best guess.

We’ve read the Associates’ Guidelines and cited them for you, and we’ve collected evidence of former Associates who were removed from the program or given 5 days to get into compliance. We’ve personally tested as much as we can and are confident that these Fixes should help and cannot hurt your blog.

Short links are no problem! We’ll “look” into any amzn.to short links we find on your site and make sure they are compliant.

Some, but much less than getting into compliance manually and much more pleasant than losing income or pageviews because of non-compliance.

You’ll need to fill out a form so we know what you want, and The Blog Fixer team will require access to your site. Even the white glove treatment has to get in the door! You have some options once you get into the form – you can remain in control of choices on your site, which will require a bit more work.

There are many aspects to staying in compliance with the Amazon’s and Google’s of the world, and while The Blog Fixer’s services are designed to help with the most time consuming, unfortunately we are not able to address all of them. The Blog Fixer will change the content of your posts and pages (see here for more details) to ensure compliance. Any issues that reside outside of these areas, including but not limited to: themes, widgets, menus, most 3rd party plugins, and scripts will not be fixed.

As the requirements for staying in compliance are often changing, we cannot guarantee that by using our services you will not be negatively impacted by a compliance issue, including but not limited to lost revenue, lost web traffic, receiving a manual penalty, or suspension or account termination.

Currently we can uncloak the Pretty Links and Simple URLs WordPress plugins along with bit.ly, ow.ly, goo.gl, tinyurl.com, azon.ly, and geni.us links.
