Under the Hood Audit

Under the Hood Audit

You know your site feels slow. This tells you exactly why.

Everyone has a theory about your site. Nobody has the data.

Your host says it’s your plugins. Your ad network says it’s your host. A Facebook group says to delete Jetpack. You’ve got dozens of plugins, some installed years ago by a developer you no longer work with, and no way to tell which ones actually cost you anything.

So you guess. You deactivate something, nothing obvious breaks, and you hope that helped.

Five layers, one report

  • Plugin Frontend Scorecard showing exactly what each plugin costs your visitors, measured in kilobytes and milliseconds.
  • Plugin inventory, verified against your database — which plugins are safe to remove today, which still have content depending on them, and which left dead shortcodes scattered through your posts after you deleted them.
  • Database health — orphaned tables from plugins you removed years ago, autoload bloat loading on every single page view, and accumulated junk nobody has ever cleaned out.
  • Performance analysis using your real Core Web Vitals field data, what Google actually measures from real visitors, not just a Lighthouse score.
  • Analytics and search — we verify your tracking is even set up correctly, then use your Search Console and Google Analytics data to show where your readers actually come from.

Plus a full Site Scan of every published post and page, so the report covers your content layer too.

What we actually find

13 plugins safe to deactivate on one site, verified against the database first.

9 KB vs 600 KB. Every plugin combined loaded 9 KB of JavaScript. The ad network loaded 600 KB.

81 dead shortcodes across 26 posts, left by a plugin removed years earlier, still printing broken output.

81 orphaned tables and 102 MB of database left behind by plugins long gone.

A tracking bug nobody knew about, splitting one of the site’s best recipes across two entries.

69% mobile. Not a guess about “most traffic is mobile” — that site’s actual audience.

“Wow, you are thorough! I had no idea about the Google Analytics issue.”

“The audit was great. It answered a lot of questions for me.”

Two clients, after their audits.

Let The Blog Fixer ™ Look Under the Hood

How it Works

  • Purchase the audit and I’ll send a short list of what I need: hosting, Google Search Console, and Google Analytics. About five minutes on your end.
  • I run the audit — plugin measurements, database queries, Core Web Vitals, analytics verification, and a full Site Scan of your content.
  • You get a written report with plain-language findings and a prioritized action plan.
  • You decide what to fix. Anything worth fixing comes with a bundled price at 20% off if you’d like me to handle it.

Once payment and access are in, you’re in the queue. I run a few of these at a time, so plan on a week or two from that point. Your site stays live throughout and nothing is changed without your say-so.

Stop guessing about your own site

You’ll know what every plugin costs you, what’s sitting in your database, whether your analytics is even recording correctly, and what to do first.

I only take a few of these at a time.

FAQs

a

How is this different from the Site Scan?

The Site Scan checks your content: images, alt text, links, redirects. This goes underneath it — your plugins, your database, your performance, your analytics, and your search data. The audit includes a fresh Site Scan too, so you’re covered on both layers.

a

What access do you need?

Hosting, Google Search Console, and Google Analytics, all read-only, plus a WordPress admin login. It takes about five minutes to set up and I’ll send exact instructions for your host.

a

Why do you need Google Analytics?

Two reasons. First, to verify your tracking is configured correctly. We’ve found sites double-tracking and sites recording pageviews under malformed URLs, both of which quietly corrupt the numbers you’re making decisions on. Second, Search Console only shows Google Search. Analytics shows where your readers actually come from, which for most food blogs turns out to be a very different story.

a

Do you change anything on my site?

Not during the audit. It’s read-only. The report tells you what I’d recommend and what it would cost if you’d like me to handle it.

a

What if I don’t want to buy any of the fixes?

That’s fine. The report is yours either way, and it’s written so you or your developer can act on it without me.

a

Do I need to be technical to use the report?

No. Findings are in plain language with a prioritized action plan, split into what to do now, what to do soon, and what to consider. Anything that needs a technical hand is priced so you can hand it to me instead.

a

How long does it take?

Once payment and access are in, you’re in the queue. I run a few of these at a time, so plan on a week or two from that point.

a

Will you tell me to delete a bunch of plugins?

Only the ones that are genuinely safe, and only after checking your database to confirm nothing depends on them. Plenty of plugins that look like dead weight turn out to be holding up content. Those get flagged to confirm with you first, not deleted.

a

I already know my site is slow. Isn’t this just going to tell me that?

It’ll tell you what’s slow and in what order to fix it. Most people are surprised. The thing they’ve been blaming usually isn’t the problem, and the actual cause is something they’d never have thought to look at.
