The Proof: You will see a box on the right-hand side with your domain and a ‘Save’ (star icon). This confirms Google recognizes your site as a followable source.
Note: When you search, don’t worry about the articles in the middle of the page—those are just recent web mentions. The Star icon in the sidebar is the only thing that matters. That star is the ‘master switch’ that tells Google to prioritize your domain for that user.
Why Google News? (It’s not just for “News”)
While the verification happens through the Google News interface, this strategy isn’t limited to traditional news outlets.
- The Entity Model: Google has expanded its “Following” ecosystem to include authoritative creators in niches like food, travel, DIY, and lifestyle.
